Day 16: Notes on Writing 50,000 Words in 30 Days

This is hard now because I have 8,600 words in my doc here at home, but probably a good 500 extra in the doc at work. So let's say I'm nearing 10,000. No, let's say that I'm nearing 20,000 just for the hell of it. Just to make everything feel better.

I interview a woman yesterday who is also being a maniac this month, rabidly pounding out her novel. She was somewhere close to 20,000. She laughed at me when I told her my count.

"You're supposed to be higher than than," she said.

I said, "No shit." Not in a mean-spirited way, because I'm not mean.

Oh well. I should return this writing energy to my—ahem—novel, where Kate is—and I'm fairly sure about this—about to put the moves on Julia. We just don't know how yet.

Fill in the blank for me, won't you?

Well, that's probably several thousand more words than you would have if you weren't doing NaNoWriMo. Right? I think I would not have been so nice to that woman. She was totally out of line. I seriously doubt I would have managed last year if I hadn't been on vacation for the majority of the month.

Are you having fun?
